Which Anti-Hero Are You?

First time I took the quiz I got "Lowlife." I went back and changed a few answers that could have gone either way and look what I end up with.

Your Kingdom Personality: Ha.

"Your distinct personality, The Dreamer-Minstrel might be found in most of the thriving kingdoms of the time. You can always see the "Silver Lining" to every dark and dreary cloud. Look at the bright side is your motto and understanding why everything happens for the best is your goal. You are the positive optimist of the world who provides the hope for all humankind. There is nothing so terrible that you can not find some good within it. On the positive side, you are spontaneous, charismatic, idealistic and empathic. On the negative side, you may be a sentimental dreamer who is emotionally impractical."
I think that's the first time in quite a while that I've been called an optimist.

Woah...

I am definitely not responsible for finding this test-- that was Emilly Beth's doing. (she, by the way, is "Creatively Evil." I'd be careful if I were you)

Oddness and Overdoses of Time

It continues to get more odd. When do people have the time to find these things- or put them together, for that matter?

Thanks to Josh Garboczi, I now know:

What color I am

(heh... Ask me later)

And what listing would be complete without "Which Historical Lunatic Are You?"

I'm Joshua Abraham Norton, the first and only Emperor of the United States of America!
Which Historical Lunatic Are You?

Well, there it is. Let me know what results you get!

My Bean

It seems quite a few people have been taking this coffee quiz. We must be drawing near to paper time. Any slight excuse to put off typing a draft is usually quite welcome. Either that, or everyone's just gone nuts- which would mean it's midterms.
I've been told that I am:

"sophistication personified. Complexity and balance are the hallmarks of your flavor preferences. You would enjoy our lush estate-grown Guatemala Antigua Finca El Valle or the caramelly sweetness of French Roast. Due to your interest in refinement, you might also enjoy our harmonious blends like Dancing Goats® or Skye's Mountain."

Almost makes me smell the distinctive aroma of a Starbuck's interior. What sort of bean are you?

P.S. Whoever named a coffee "Dancing Goats" must have been mad.

Ready for the Storm

The waves crash in
The tide rolls out
It's an angry sea
But there is no doubt
That the lighthouse will keep shining out
To warn a lonely sailor

And the lightening strikes
And the wind cuts cold
Through the sailor's bones
Through the sailor's soul
'Til there's nothing left that he can hold
Except a rolling ocean

Oh I am ready for the storm
Yes, Sir, ready
I am ready for the storm
I'm ready for the storm

O give me mercy for my dreams
'Cause every confrontation seems
To tell me what it really means
To be this lonely sailor

And when the sky begins to clear
The sun it melts away my fear and I
Cry a silent weary tear
For those who mean to love me

Oh I am ready for the storm
Yes, Sir, ready
I am ready for the storm

The distance it is no real friend
Time will take its time and you will
Find it in the end
It brings you me this lonely sailor

And when you take me by the hand
You love me Lord you love me and I
Should have realized
I had no reasons to be frightened

Oh I am ready for the storm
Yes, Sir, ready
I am ready for the storm
Yes, Sir, ready
I am ready for the storm
Yes, Sir, ready
I am ready for the storm
I'm ready for the storm

Ready for the Storm

The Brilliance of Sir Arthur

(Watson to Holmes, over the newspaper)
"Those are all the notices which appeared before the disappearance of the bride."
"Before the what?" asked Holmes, with a start.
"The vanishing of the lady."
"When did she vanish, then?"
"At the wedding breakfast."
"Indeed. This is more interesting than it promised to be; quite dramatic, in fact."
"Yes, it struck me as being a little out of the common."
"They often vanish before the ceremony, and occasionally during the honeymoon; but I cannot call to mind anything quite so prompt as this."

Boreas

Boreas

Today was a windswept day, the first real blustery day approaching fall. When I walked to and from classes, my hair was snatched away and tangled back round about me. Tonight as I walked back from dinner, I looked out over the grassy, rippled land, saw the grey clouds swirled overhead, and felt the breeze tug at me. I thought: I wish I had my horse.
I was greatly tempted to run on my twice-sprained ankle.

Criminal Behavior

Giving two exams (not quizzes) on Latin within the first two weeks of the semester is criminal. Not that there's much I can do about it, Latin is Dr. Noe's Domain and there he reigns supreme.

God is faithful. I am continually amazed at the was he nudges chance aside to shelter me with his hand. Poor Gabrielle's car is in pieces, but I am whole. The sprains are healing, the bruises fade, and soon I will have only a faint memory of brakes stopping, vehicle barreling on; the turn- too sharp, but we had to try; the other car, with a young family inside, rushing up to the windshield; the impact, sudden and suddenly over. And yet, there we were, whole. Merely a bloody nose, two broken cars, and an incredulous group of EMTs and officers. God is so good.

Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness!

God Rest Ye

Ah, what a lovely night. Sometimes joy fills the heart to overflowing, even when you are standing in a river of sadness. You cannot help but be filled to overflowing. It pours out of you in golden rivulets with the warm green light of spring, it shines as it slips sparkling into the stream, and the stars scintillate in the dark heavens above. All you can do is stand there in the stream, arms hanging at your sides, head tipped back to drink in the golden flow. Eyes wide open to catch the starlight.

God rest ye merry gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
For Jesus Christ our savior
Was born on Christmas day
To save us all from Satan's power
Ere we were gone astray
Oh tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
Oh tidings of comfort and joy

"But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream."
-Amos

Night is for Reflection

Night is a time for reflection, for remembrance, and for inspiration:

Night Falls Softly

Drink in the purple of the night
Soft warm breezes blowing 'round
Deep blue darkness settles down
And I drift along in the moonlight
Like the little dancing green leaves
That tip the dark branches of the trees
The night is falling
Falling softly

Little silver specks peer
From the warm blackness on high
Singing the music of the sky
It sounds so beautifully clear
And I'm swept away by their song
The music carries me along
The night is falling
Falling softly

See C.S. Lewis's great work, "The Discarded Image"

"For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone," declares the sovereign Lord. "Repent and live!"
-Ecclesiastes

Clinging to The Rock

In the midst of life we sometimes find ourselves standing silently, alone, as the river of humanity rushes by on all sides- experiencing a moment of profound stillness. In that brief piece of quiet thoughts are clear, sharp, and well articulated. Facts are cold, plain, and un-muddled by the daily stream of life. We sit on the rock of stillness, wet and dripping, and watch the river rush past, and we see the direction we must follow. As soon as we slip off of our rock back into the river, the clarity will be gone. Life will be rushing over us and around us once again, and we will no longer remember what we determined in that still moment on the rock above the flow. If we hold to our conviction tightly, perhaps we will retain some memory of that time of peace; perhaps we will remember our direction.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
-Joshua 1:9

More Than

Well, I've done with my Theology midterm examination, and I have a pile of Cicero to read for Rhetoric in the morning- that's not to mention I've not touched my Latin or History for tomorrow yet (due to said midterm). That's one midterm down, four left to conquer. Ah well. As my good friend Nathan would say, "Such is life."

"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness!"

It Begins

"Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: who created all of these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing." Isaiah 40:26

Thus begins my log.
