Vatea

Did a portrait sketch of the friend who Vatea/Lucy Michaels is based upon to get a better feel for her facial structure.

Snow Gets Some Shades

Just realized that I never posted the full version of this.  Did it during my Photoshop trial as a means of testing various effects.  The idea for the initial sketch was that Rhonwen got a pair of cool shades to hide her eyes.  Happiness.

Testing... Snow and Spark in Color

Just a quick test of GIMP, a program similar to Photoshop--but free!

Sensei

I like this one.

Ferrus's Stuff

This was sketched on an airplane (note the loose pencil work encouraged by both turbulence and the small child seated next to me).

Maggie Comic: Layout Sketch

This is the first 2-page spread for Maggie's comic. It's rough and incomplete--sketched quickly on scrap paper during lunch about a year ago.  I haven't had time to get back to it, but I'm re-posting it now for inspiration since I now have a computer that will handle my tablet.

The Abbess, Take 2

  [Re-Post]
Version 2 of The Abbess. I've added a scarf, gloved the left hand, left the extended right hand bare to illustrate it wrinkled and crone-like, and also played around with her clothing more in this one, experimenting with a trendier style that simultaneously hinted at religious uniform (primarily the undershirt resembling the collar on a nun's habit).

[Re-Post]
This is the first, quick-and-dirty sketch version of Maggie's comic hero, The Abbess. Her power is healing, enhanced by relics embedded in her gnarled hands.

Another Snow

Rhonwen "Wyn" Lyall, alias "Snow," again. This one was done after I received some authorial description.

Rowan Glenys

"Rowan Glenys," alias "Spark." A first stab at her as well. Definitely need to give her more thought. I'm not really sure what points I want to use as visual distinctives for this character.

Anyway, she's the partner in crime for the "Snow" character.

Ladron, Take One

Gabriel "Gabe" Christobal, alias "Ladron." Not happy with this one, but it was a 10-minute start and I couldn't find the volume-one sourcebook to read Maggie's description before I started. I of course found it immediately after I finished and read that he's supposed to have cropped hair and tatoos. Ah well, another day.

Tobit Newman / "Father"

Vatea, Take Two

A more stylized rendition, done on some scrap paper while traveling.

Ferrus, Take One

[Re-Post]
Meh. So this is a first run at another character from Maggie's comic. He needs some serious work. I mean, it's OK, but didn't come out as I intended it. For one thing, at the time I didn't really have a good head shot of the guy he's based on. I do now, and I'm going to do a second pass sometime in the post-Thesis future.

Snow, Take One

Ack: I've once again misplaced my cleaned-up copy of this sketch. Ah well.
This is another character from Maggie's comic. I've nicknamed her "Snow" (she's not as far along in Maggieverse development as The Abbess). The basic idea was inspired by our Dark Forest/Lyonesse days. In other words, Snow is a mildly anti-social, blunt werewolf who kicks about with her red-haired fellow wolf, "Spark:" a well-educated, gracious, master of intrigue.
